Things to think about before buying a new washing machine:

• Do you want a hot or a cold fill machine? Hot fill takes water that is heated by your boiler which should be more efficient than the heater in a cold fill model. However the difference only really kicks in for the hotter washes.
• Top loading or front loading machine: which is better? Despite front-loaders being much more popular there are some features of the top-loaders that you may prefer.For a start they tend to be considerably narrower. On the flip side, top loaders are generally a little more difficult to use and can make a greater amount of noise when in use. Along with the noise, you can get a fair amount of vibration as well.
• Would a separate washer and dryer be best, or how about an all-in-one washer-dryer? You may find that a dual washer-dryer has a shorter operational life than the separate machines. Remember, one device is effectively doing both jobs. On the other hand the two devices being combined does of course safe space.
• The amount of clothes you can fit in a given load is obviously something that you should consider. Be clear what your requirements are. If you are a young couple, without children, what you need will be nothing like that required from a large family Spin speed. The maximum spin speed will to some extent dictate the price of the appliance, so make sure you are getting the speed you need rather than paying over the odds.
• Think about what features and options you want. Take the delayed start as an example. Will you actually use it? Will you make use of a different wash cycle for almost different material type known to man or will you just stick to a few out of the tens offered?
