Features to consider when selecting your washing machine include:

• Another decision to make is whether you choose a model with a hot feed or one that only requires cold water. If you opt for cold fill, the machine itself heats the water. This can be less energy efficient than a hot fill machine that uses water heated by your boiler, but this only really makes a difference if you do a lot of hot washes.
• Would you prefer a front loading device or a top-loader? Top-loading models are far less common than front-loaders, but they do have some advantages.If you are short on space, they are often not as wide as the front-loaders. On the flip side, top loaders are generally a little more difficult to use and can make a greater amount of noise when in use. They tend to vibrate a fair bit as well.
• Would a separate washer and dryer be best, or how about an all-in-one washer-dryer? You may find that a dual washer-dryer has a shorter operational life than the separate machines. Remember, one device is effectively doing both jobs. On the other hand the two devices being combined does of course safe space.
• Drum size. Clearly one distinguishing feature is just how large a load of washing your chosen product can handle. Large family with several kids? If so you would be better off with a fairly large drum – even then you are likely to have the machine running fairly frequently! Spin speed. The maximum spin speed will to some extent dictate the price of the appliance, so make sure you are getting the speed you need rather than paying over the odds.
• Think about what features and options you want. Delayed start is a prime example. How many people actually make use of it? Are you likely to use more then a few of the many, many types of wash that some products offer?
